He left the light-filled throne room of heaven

The prophet Malachi anticipated a day when God would visit his people in such a way that it could be described as a sun rising. What does the rising of the sun bring? When the sun rises, it brings light to drive away darkness. But this sun brought with it righteousness and healing as well. Or, better put, this Son brought with Him righteousness and healing. Jesus says in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

For Jesus to be the light of the world, he had to enter into the darkness. He left the light-filled throne room of heaven to come down into a world filled with sin and death. He entered into the darkness that we caused as He hung on the cross on our behalf. He bore the entirety of that darkness so we didn’t have to. He entered into the darkness of the grave. He died so that we could live.

When Jesus came, He ushered in a kingdom where sin and death wouldn’t have the advantage but His grace and mercy would. And when He comes again, there will be no more sin and death.
